I clumsily and randomly encountered the music of Orchestra Lunatica during the closing credits of the movie The Losers, which seems to be how everyone discovered them. I’ve seen people group them together with guys like Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai, etc. Seems appropriate, but I think they remind me more of E.S. Posthumus because of the heavy incorporation of classical instruments.
Anyway, I just listened to this song for the first time and it perfectly embodies the title. Starts off really pleasant and light, and then it descends into something else. But then it comes back to the pleasant stuff. I think we’ve all been on that roller coaster before.
